Squarespace ID Finder: How to Find Block ID in Squarespace

Did you know that all Squarespace blocks have a unique identification number in the form of a string of numbers and letters?

This can be helpful if you’re using CSS to enhance a particular part of your page, as you’ll need an ID number to specify which block you want to apply the effects to.

Here are two ways how to find a block ID in Squarespace.

Option 1: Squarespace ID Finder

The Squarespace ID Finder is a free Chrome extension that makes finding your block ID super simple.

Just download it and click on the icon in your toolbar to activate. Your block IDs will appear as a red popup, which you can copy and paste into your CSS code.

This handy extension has over 60,000 users for a reason!

Option 2: Use your web browser

This option is a bit harder as you’ll need to do some searching and sleuthing. However, it’s handy if you’re away from home and can’t log into your Squarespace site.

Open your website in your browser and open your browser’s web development tools. For example, this is done in Chrome by right-clicking and choosing Inspect.

Click the cursor icon at the top left-hand corner of the screen – this means you can hover over an item on the webpage, and the corresponding code will be highlighted.

Hover over the relevant Squarespace block, and in the highlighted code, look for the element that starts id=”block-. The string of letters and numbers that succeeds this is your ID.
